Kanban vs Scrum: Choosing the Right Process
Don't be a slave to the process. If Scrum feels like overhead, maybe you just need a Kanban board and good communication. Scrum is prescriptive; Kanban is adaptive.

We say "People over Process," but then we spend 4 hours a week in Jira grooming sessions.The goal of any process should be to minimize the time between "Idea" and "Value delivered." Both Scrum and Kanban try to solve this, but they optimize for different variables.
Scrum: The Heartbeat of Discovery
Scrum is built around the Sprint . It acknowledges that we are bad at predicting the future, so we should only plan for 2 weeks at a time.
Good For: Teams building NEW products. When you don't know what you don't know, the Sprint Review forces a feedback loop. It forces you to stop and ask, "Did we build the right thing?"
The Trap: "Water-Scrum-Fall." Teams treat Sprints as mini-waterfall projects. They do all design in week 1 and all QA in week 2. This is not Agile; it's just fast waterfall.
Kanban: The Art of Flow
Kanban comes from Toyota's manufacturing lines. It focuses on Flow Efficiency. There are no timeboxes. You pull work when you have capacity.
Limit WIP(Work In Progress)
This is the counter - intuitive core of Kanban.To go faster, you must do less.If a team of 5 has 20 tickets in progress, everyone is context switching.
Little's Law proves this: Cycle Time = WIP / Throughput. To reduce Cycle Time (deliver faster), you must reduce WIP.
Good For: SRE teams, Support teams, or very mature Product teams where the "What to build" is clear, but the "Throughput" needs optimization.
